Single layer roofing is recommended for buildings like sheds and storage buildings, while double to triple layer roofing may be used on residential buildings.

If you are using an optional underlayment, put it down first and secure it before installing the actual roofing. To seal the nails after securing them, use a layer of lap cement.

Luckily it is one of the least expensive types of roofing jobs to have a professional contractor handle for you and may be even cheaper if you have your own supplies. You may even be able to hire an all-purpose handyman company to come in and install the roof for even less than a roofing contractor would charge. Use your best judgment when deciding whether or not this project is something you can do or something best left to the pros.
